Welcome to the Kinsmen Foundation of BC Funding.

We fund a wide range of new and used equipment and will consider the most obscure devices if they will assist an individual in their quality of life, personal mobility, and independence.

Examples of the most frequently funded equipment include:

  • Power wheelchairs
  • Manual wheelchairs
  • Custom orthotics
  • Specialized wheelchair seating systems
  • Ramps
  • Portable lift system
  • Scooters
  • Walkers
  • Assistive technology devices (e.g. Dragon speaking software, electronic doors, automated home devices)

Our mandate is inclusive of a wide range of physical disabilities; these include, but are not limited to:

  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Acquired Brain Injury
  • Stroke
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Muscular Dystrophy
  • Spina Bifida
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • ALS
  • Arthritis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Polio
  • Amputation
  • Severe Burns

As a way of fulfilling as many requests as possible, our organization imposes maximum amounts on certain types of equipment. All equipment and corresponding funding limits are listed below:

  • Back-up wheelchair – $250
  • Scooters – $1000
  • Power wheelchairs – $2000
  • Manual wheelchairs – $500
  • Custom orthotics – $3000
  • Specialized wheelchairs seating systems – $3000
  • Ramps – $300
  • Portable lift system – $2000
  • Walkers – $250
  • Assistive technology devices (e.g. Dragon speaking software) – $1000

Awards are considered by a combination of factors. Approved applications typically demonstrate a severe need, an inability to acquire the needed equipment through other means and applications that address each of the following areas:

  • financial need of the applicant
  • type of disability
  • how the equipment request will improve the applicants quality of life and increase personal independence
  • if the applicant has explored other avenues of funding
  • two or more quotes (from different vendors) for the equipment being applied for
  • how long the equipment will meed the client’s need
  • letter of support and/or assessment from a health care practitioner such as a medical doctor, occupational therapist or physiotherapist

We are currently working on an online application. As of now please follow the button below to a download the PDF. The application can be emailed to kinsmenfoundationofbc@shaw.ca or mailed directly to:

Where can I ask questions?

You can email us questions directly to kinsmenfoundationofbc@shaw.ca

Why do you have funding limits?

We would like to help everyone but our funds are limited. We would like to help fund a wider range of individuals.

Can I obtain funding from other organizations as well?

We encourage you to apply for funding wherever you are eligible. We will consider sharing the cost of equipment with other organizations.
